Board Development

The Boards of non-profit organizations are often made up of people with widely varying interests and experience. Although the members share a commitment to the mission and future of the organization on whose Board they sit, they often bring to their duties very different values and expectations about many important issues. These different perspectives may affect their fundamental perceptions of questions as basic as how organizations should work, what constitutes "fiscal responsibility," and even the proper role of the Board itself.

Effective functioning of the Board allows the organization to make the most of members' experience and expertise. That effective functioning, however, depends on developing among Board members some shared understandings such as their role in the organization, their commitments to the organization, and their relationships with the organization's other constituencies. Development of these understandings requires open communications that are often difficult to achieve in groups of accomplished individuals whose essential value to the organization is their different perspectives and experiences.

EPIC Wealth Advisors can work with the Board and staff of a non-profit organization to develop a process through which common expectations and role definitions can be built. EPIC professionals have extensive experience with a wide array of non-profit organizations and their Boards. These professionals are available to help identify the issues to be addressed in order to enhance a Board's ability to participate effectively in the organization's growth. EPIC personnel can also to facilitate the Board's discussions about how best to address those issues.

In addition, EPIC Wealth Advisors can also help create and assist in implementing processes by which a Board can regularly assess itself, monitor its progress toward established goals, review its roles and renew its commitment to the organization as its needs and challenges change.
